Human History of North Beach

In 1918 North Beach was purchased by the city of Burlington. This picture was taken before it was municipally owned. During the Great Depression, the beach was a popular spot for the growing number of unemployed to spend their leisure time (Leckie, 2012).

The increasing popularity of North Beach “exploded” during the 50’s and 60’s (eclarke, 2018). Recreational camping allowed the beach to fund other beaches and parks.

High bacteria levels in the 70s caused some rough times, but improvements in technology during the 80s and 90s helped improve the facilities (eclarke, 2018).

Today, North Beach offers many the chance to be encapsulated by the beauty of the view. Frequent goers have a sense of place that is associated with the sight. With the vibrant colors of the fall leaves and the outline of the mountains, it’s not hard to see why.
