Casavant Nature Trail is a 2-mile circle trail with a lake near Winooski, Vermont, that is suited for hikers of all abilities. The entrance is located at 18-2 Main St in Winooski (VT). There is parking on the street and a place to lock bikes, although neither are allowed on the trail. There is also a bus stop near by.

I found this trail after searching online for public hiking trails in my area. I had always found success (and many hidden gems) when I did the same thing in my hometown. I was interested in Casavant due to it’s closeness to the UVM campus and the lake it loops around.

After exploring the trail for a little bit, I documented some green ash, paper birch, sugar maple, and American beech trees. Amongst what I believe to be some sort of wetland was a whole clearing of switchgrass. On the ground level, the cover was mostly wood fern.
