The ride out of the Hague started out beautiful until our first flat tire of the day. This seems to be an ongoing trend for us. Because the dunes in their natural form provide such a an important purpose for the Dutch people they have been left relatively untouched compared to the the rest of the nation which is manipulated and engineered by humans nearly everywhere. As an ecology student this made the dunes particularly interesting to me because it gave me a glimpse into what holland may have looked like pre settlement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/netherlands\/files\/2024\/06\/Dunes-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-590\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/netherlands\/files\/2024\/06\/Dunes-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/netherlands\/files\/2024\/06\/Dunes-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/netherlands\/files\/2024\/06\/Dunes-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/netherlands\/files\/2024\/06\/Dunes-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/netherlands\/files\/2024\/06\/Dunes.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
At the halfway point of our bike ride today we stopped in a cute beach town called Katwijk.
