This virtual training session will focus on the foundations of a strong UAS program including, but not limited to policies, procedures, leadership, and support. Organizational strengths and limitations of successful UAS programs will also be discussed.

Flight Data Management & Equipment Tracking

The main topics in this lecture will be best practices for managing flight metadata, data logging and retention, and battery and equipment management.

Geospatial Visualization & Analysis

This lecture will highlight photogrammetric processing, imagery analysis, terrain data display and analysis, 3D visualization, and CAD & GIS integration.

Photography & Videography

Topics covered in this lecture will include principles of photography and videography, including operational considerations, best practices for lighting, post-processing, and dissemination. Best practices for integrating this type of media with data-based deliverables will be discussed as well.

Platform & Sensor Selection

This virtual training session will focus on selecting a UAS and sensor combination to suit particular types of missions. Both multi-rotor and fixed-wing platforms and the benefits and limitations of various sensors will be discussed.

Risk Assessment

This lecture will cover risk assessment and mitigation techniques, hazard identification, airspace integration, and UAS traffic management. Additional content will include developing a safety management system, FAA regulations, mission and flight checklists, and public engagement and outreach.

Waivers

Main focuses in this training will be information on operational waivers under the FAA Part 107 regulations and an overview of the waiver application process with particular focus on airspace authorizations and night operations.

Operating Near Structures

In this session, the topics discussed will include structural inspection procedures, crew composition and training, mission profiles, launch and landing considerations, flight operations, and airflow considerations. Additional topics will incorporate operating in a GPS-denied environment, evasive procedures, flight profiles, data collection, and more.

Night Operations

This training session will highlight night operations success cases, crew composition and training, mission profiles, checklists, platform and sensor selection, and UAS markings. Further topics will include visual observer implementation, flight operations, airspace integration, among others.

Thermal Imaging

9:00-10:00 AM (EST)

Topics discussed in this session will involve principles of thermography, measurement accuracy, anomalies, heat transfer and emissivity, mission profiles, thermal sensor operation, and sensor and platform comparisons. Additional topics will be flight planning considerations, environmental factors, image analysis, software comparison, and data storage and dissemination, and more.
