Phen 6!

We are so back. Im almost out of here!

me draw

So how has my place changed over time? Well, there is this dirt pathway to my spot. It used to be very lush with leaf litter: pine needles: and grass, but right before the snow hit, it all got washed away. Once the snow melted and water ran down it and rain came down and it was eroded all away, it was left barren and very gross. It continues to be that way. Major landmark is the massive EWP and a minor one that i love is this little lump in the ground. I like to think that it;s a rock that got covered in eroded dirt and is now buried under there. So this is a walkway from Trinity to some apartments behind it, and a lot of people travel on this everyday, so there is a lot of litter and erosion. Lots of Doritos bags… I do not consider myself a part of this place. I hate it here and I have separated myself with the nature here. That ways actually the first thing I did. Eugh. Anywho, thats all for this class and all for my time at UVM.

Hello again my lovely blog. So this week i went out with the decision to identify an american beech tree, certainly not because it’s the easiest to identify… Anywho, heres that ss. The Process was super simple for identification. I looked at the beech bud and identified it.

Hello to JJ and my Mom, the only 2 people who will ever read this blog lol. So me and my friends went on a little jaunt to the causeway (very fun). We biked there are just kinda looked around. I used seek to identify trees, because I prefer it’s UI to INaturalist.

Me n my Tree

So that is an ss of me finding an Eastern Cottonwood tree. It was very pretty, and it took me forever to get the angle right for it to identify. Very fun. I think that’s really all for this post? I cant super tell. Meh, ill post another ss for funsies.

Me! I actually did this assignment on time, but I just. Forgot? about the blog part until today when I was going through my grades and realized that I had not done this. Any who, me and a couple of friends went out back behind mercy and walked along a bike trail. It was really sketchy and outright deadly in some spots. Cursed. Right as we walked into the forest, we saw a grey squirrel and tracked him for a bit. He didn’t leave any tracks as the ground cover was present enough to keep his little feet out of the mud. After that, we kept walking and found some scat on the ground. Very Likely a dog’s poop, as this trail is loved by dog walkers. We also saw a dead and wet tree in a frozen riverbed, We broke some of the bark off and found some hibernating bugs! Our books have nothing on bugs, and we found no tracks, but we did find the little squirrel!

Hello! Yesterday, I went back to my phenology spot, or, well, I tried too. The snow made it a wee bit difficult to get as far into the woods as I did last time… any-who, on to the changes. There’s a butt-ton of more snow. On the branches, on the ground, in a hole, just. Everywhere. Also, there are no leaves on trees and the one or two pines are not shedding their needles. Its a very, very serene location and being outside in it was really quite beautiful; I am not accustomed to snow being from Georgia. Its also a commonly used path to get from some apartment complex back there to campus, so the trail wasn’t too bad. Also because it’s so populated, there were no immediate snow tracks :(. I really hope to see some in the future, as I have seen small critters about in those woods. Ok! I think thats all for this post! Bye!

Final One

Hello! This is the final blog post and it is me “going back” to my phonology spot. I will be totally transparent, this was all encased in one visit, so the changes noted are all from my memory of being in this place before. There is a lot less leaf litter, I assume due to decomposition, some moss still remains and some ferns remain. There was a Beech tree with leaves still, which was mad interesting, and the Hemlocks obv still had their needles. The pine tree had its, and the ground was mostly covered by that. I also noticed that the ground (which is on a hill) had little holes in it all over? I think it was because of how the pine needles interacted with the sediment from the flowing water. It looked kinda cool and made a funny crunching noise when I stepped on it. I saw no animal activity, but heard a little critter running about somewhere in the woods. I enjoyed becoming in touch with nature again. I missed it.

Im home!

(I actually did this one) So when I got home, I landed, went home, slept for 5 hours, then drove from Ringgold, GA to some place in VA that i cant remember the name of for my grandma’s funeral. Not fun. So the trip started with me being awake and driving for way too long with a very emotional funeral in the middle (not cool). So when I got home, I felt a little sick but nothing bad. The next day was mostly the same, except that night, I threw up 3 times and had chills and aches that severely affected my ability to sleep. The next day, I did not get out of bed for any reason other than to use the bathroom. It was also at this time my pneumonia developed and wow did I cough. I coughed so much, it caused me to repeat the previous night. So with little sleep, little food, and (I was really trying) little water, I was in bad shape. The night before Thanksgiving, I was taken to the ER because my entire body was cold, my blood oxygen was abysmally low (blue-tinted fingers and toes) and I could not breathe really at all. So that was cool. I spent a lot of time in the ER and they gave me a whole bag of IV fluids and gave me some antibiotics for the pneumonia. I say all of this to describe how little time I actually had to go outside and sit down. The last day I was home, I did get to go outside and man are the tress different. There are seriously only pine and oaks there I swear to God. I didn’t particularly know what kinds of oaks and pines, but due to the bark, I could tell it was them. It was foggy and I did get this sick picture of a tree there. The ecology is much different too. The leaves were still on the trees and it was still very much green in some areas. It (thankfully) didn’t rain too much, so I didn’t get to see any runoff or anything, but from what I remember, it has to rain a lot to see it on the surface of the soil. The soil down there is also a lot rockier and way less sandy, which makes sense, as there is little glacial till there. Also, since this place is my backyard (large property), I feel weird just dropping the location of it, but my address is 215 Waters Drive, Ringgold, GA 30736. I don’t know how thats different than the location, but it feels less wrong.

cool tree
