I sat down on a root of the largest White Pine in the section I chose for 15 minutes just in total silence. what I noticed is how still everything was, I heard some rustling in the woods and I turned and saw a squirrel scurrying around. I closed my eyes and just listen of a little, I heard the honking of what sounded like geese. I’m no Ornithologist but my guess was that they were Canadian geese or Snow Geese but more likely Snow geese as Canadian Geese migrate in September and October while the Snow Geese migrate in November and December. I also noticed that when the wind would blow the leaves would flutter to the ground and it was really peaceful.
I noticed some changes since the last time I was here. Mostly that there was less color especially in the understory being made up of the grey and brown of the trees bark and the greens of the White Pines and hemlock needles There was still orangish/yellowish color on the tops of the White Oaks and maples. The one paper birch and bass wood had some leaves through out the tree that were manly yellow. There was way more leaves on the ground than before some of the ferns were harder to see has the leaves buried them a little.
