Trinity Woods is a hardwood, old growth forest found behind the Trinity Campus at UVM. I discovered it about a month ago during a scavenger hunt activity with some peers, and we instantly clicked with it and its landscape. To get to my specific spot in Trinity Woods, you walk to the front of the Trinity Campus, then walk between Mercy Hall and Farrell Hall until you reach the unmarked entrance into the woods. Upon entry, most trees are hardwood- with the most common tree species being Sugar Maples, Striped Maples, Paper Birches, Black Cherries, and American Beeches. Most of these trees are mature and in the overstory, but there is also a good number of American Beeches in the understory. Besides this, the understory is populated with a large number of ferns but is not particularly dense. As I got further into the woods and closer to the stream, where my actual phenology spot is, there were some large Eastern White Pines, Yellow Birches, and Green Ashes.
