My friends and I decided to explore the area around Battery Park in downtown Burlington for our new phenology spot. It had snowed the day before, so we were able to see some fresh sets of tracks, which was a nice surprise given how dry the previous week was. It was definitely interesting to use the iNaturalist app to see what others documented, as well as add our own observations.

Because we were around a lot of trees, most of the track we saw resembled the bounding nature of squirrels, leading to most of the identifications falling under this category. We saw some other tracks, ones that resembled maybe fishers and hares, but they were less defined and harder to accurately identify.

We could tell based on the size of the prints, the pattern of which the animal moved, the number of feet, etc. that the prints were likely that of squirrels.

The sky was especially beautiful that day, and the sun was much needed after weeks of cloudy skies!
