Welcome to my Phenology Blog! I chose Centennial Woods as my location, but more specifically I found a spot by the creek. It is very easy to find, as you just enter Centennial Woods from Carrigan Drive and follow the trail. After crossing a swampy area that takes you over a bridge and wooden planks, you go uphill until you find a clearing. Going straight from there you reach the creek and my spot! You’ll know you made it to the right place if you see a log over the creek an a spot where the creek splits downstream. I first explored this spot during the Centennial Woods self guided lab, and fell in love with it, so it was my obvious choice for a Phenology Spot.
The Stream and Log that Indicate you gave made it to my Phenology Spot!

What drew me to this spot in the first place was the wide diversity in vegetation. Some trees I noticed while walking around here are
- Norway Maple
- Eastern Hemlock
- Eastern White Pine
- White Oak
- Honeysuckle
- Yellow Birch
- Green Ash
I also noticed some species of plants I did not know, so I used the iNaturalist App to help me identify them. I discovered Japanese Barberry, Intermediate Wood Fern, Riverbank Grape, and Golden Rod. I loved getting to explore and learn new plant species, and I cannot wait to see what other changes I find throughout the seasons!
