New site comparison

I am home for thanksgiving break so I found a new blog spot in Battell woods in Middlebury VT! These woods are right behind my neighborhood so I grew up playing in them and know them very well. The spot I chose is right off the path. There is a large moss covered rock surrounded by little American beech (Fagus grandifolia, Fagaceae) trees. The overstory consists of eastern white pines (Pinus strobus, Pinaceae), and some red oaks (Quercus rubra, Fagaceae). There is also an upturned snag with its roots sticking out. The little beech trees that surround the moss rock are very small and I think they are kind of cute. The moss rock provides all kinds of habitat for little organisms like bugs and worms. The upturned tree also provides a lot of habitat for small critters, and they in turn provide food for slightly larger critters like chipmunks. My last site was on the bank of a stream, this site is nowhere near water. This site is also much closer to the path than the last site. I think that this affects the number and species of animals that will pass through the site. My previous site also had maple trees and buckthorn, this site has neither of those.
