Tree ID!

To be honest, I did not go all the way down to the river today during my visit to Salmon Hole because my hands were getting too cold and the was snow in my shoe 🙁

However, I did manage to identify what I am 80% sure is a northern red oak near the top of the hill over the Hole. I identified the tree with the help of the tree and twig identification sheet and another plant identification app called PictureThis. The particular tree I chose appears to be fairly young. The bark is somewhat ridged but mostly smooth and has a light brown/gray color. The buds on the twigs are still small, making them difficult to analyze, although they seem to have the distinct three-pronged buds of red oaks.

A twig with very small buds from the red oak that I observed.
Quercus rubra
The observation I entered into iNaturalist.

I don’t believe it appears in the iNaturalist app, but on the website, I marked this tree with “No Evidence of Flowering.”
