AZORES to ABIQUIU – new paintings

Village Wine and Coffee  June-July 2018. 5288 Shelburne Rd Shelburne, VT. 802 985-8922

Three Stones Gallery  July- August 2018.    10C Main Street, Rockport, Mass.

These new works come from a larger series of ocean and desert inspired paintings completed while I was an artist resident in Auvillar, France during the winter of 2017. A continuation of my examination of the visual voices of natural landscape, these series are directly inspired by the power of the ocean and changing winds of the Azores, on Kauai and on the reefs of Bonaire.  The second series continues my exploration of arid landscapes, most recently in the high deserts of Abiqiui, New Mexico. Bright, vivid and a departure from  my large scale poured works, these pieces are intimate and yet filled with movement.

Of ART and NATURE—the artist/ nature/ spirit collaboration

DRAWING and PAINTING at GHOST RANCH

A workshop for people who wish to explore their creativity and their connection with nature and spirit in the magnificent surroundings of GHOST RANCH—an extraordinary 21,000 acre landscape

Art making can be a contemplative practice in observation and execution, a way of fine-tuning the  eye, hand, and spirit . When the making of art dances between the natural world, the artist and a sense of spiritual listening, the collaboration often reveals inspired beauty, often sense of  delicious inquiry or profound power and sometimes insight.

What  more  powerful and appropriate place for this exploration than Ghost Ranch,  Abiquiu, New Mexico?

Participants will forge a deeper relationship with the natural world, expand their artistic skills and vision and create some inspiring visual works.

The rhythm of the days will begin with morning workshops in drawing/painting –both plein air and in the studio,  hiking (at one’s own level) and opportunities for reflection and meditation.  The  afternoons will be flexible.  Participants  can further immerse  themselves in art making, in hiking or they may choose to explore via horseback  or  take trips to local artists studios. Tours specific to O’Keefe’s life and work at the ranch, along with yoga classes and massage are also available.  Evenings  provide the option of  slide talks and time to share ideas and work.

Each day will include time in the natural landscape, actual art instruction, art making, time for reflection and discussion.

Participants in this workshop  will be housed in Casa Del Sol, the retreat house built in the 1930s.  Located next door to Georgia O’Keefe’s own ranch home, this is horse shoe shaped hacienda surrounding  an airy courtyard – with powerful mountain views . If one knows O’Keefe’s work, one will recognize these mountains immediately.  Casa Del Sol  has  six unique welcoming bedrooms, well stocked with  wonderful books, a simple kitchen, a living room with fireplace all surrounded by inspiring landscapes.

COME EXERCISE your eyes, hands and spirit.
