I’ve attached a monitoring plan<\/a> (735 KB pdf file) for the Southern Willamette Valley Groundwater Management Area Volunteer Monitoring Program administered by the Oregon State University Well Water program. They have partnered with my program so their data will be available in our LASAR database. We also are analyzing some split samples for NO3+NO2 to help quantify the quality of their test kits and sampling.<\/p>\n

Hi Linda,<\/p>\n

We have conducted ground water monitoring using private citizens through our wellhead education program, but they typically only sample their own well. Our local county educators hold the programming and train the audience to sample their own well. We have used these educational meetings as contacts to get locations for our dedicated monitoring staff to set up a well network that they sample later. We have used the landowner sample results as reconnaissance sample to target potential problem areas, but do not include the results in our database unless the well has been re-sampled by trained staff.<\/p>\n

Received your request for community-based groundwater monitoring protocols (volunteers) from Marlene Doyle of Environment Canada\u2019s EMAN (see message below).<\/p>\n

H2O Chelsea has developed a couple of tools\/sampling programs that may be of interest to you.<\/p>\n

1) Static Level Program <\/a>(8 KB pdf file) —measuring of water level in wells over time<\/p>\n

2) Water Questionnaire <\/a>(8 KB pdf file) \u2013 list of questions for residents to answer, including \u2018Any water shortages?\u2019<\/p>\n

3) Water Census <\/a>(192 KB pdf file) \u2013 similar as the Questionnaire, but goes into detail regarding water shortages (frequency, lead-up etc.).<\/p>\n

I am attaching a few PDF\u2019s that describe our activites regarding 1), 2) and 3). Am also attaching a PDF entitled \u2018Quantity Manual<\/a>\u2019 (16 KB pdf file) that describes these initiatives more succinctly, and puts these initiatives into perspective, as per the aims of our program.<\/p>\n

As a member of the Groundwater Guardian, you might check with them. (groundwater.org) In Illinois, we have a few Counties that have become Groundwater Guardian Communities and according to the Army Corp of Engineers, Chicago Office, Issolated Wetlands are protected by that local authority.<\/p>\n

I discovered this when a warehouse threatened a 35 acre Issolated Wetland in our watershed.
