Intro to Crescent

Crescent Woods is a small stream that runs through South Burlington surrounded by trees.  When walking, it takes about 30 minutes to get there.  From the Aiken Center, I walk west on Main St. until I reach South Prospect St.  Then, I walk south on this road for about a mile, past the Burlington Country Club until I reach Crescent Rd.  Turning right onto Crescent Rd, I follow this for a little over a quarter of a mile down a small hill to reach the entrance of the woods.  There are a set of wooden stairs to get down to the stream edge.  I chose this spot because it was recommended on the Burlington site and it is not a complicated route to get there (especially for the upcoming winter months).

Many of the focal species can be found in Crescent Woods.  This includes Norway Maple (around the entrance), Sugar Maple, Red Maple, American Beech, Poison Ivy, Red Oak, White Oak, and Eastern Hemlock.  There were some ferns, mushrooms, and moss on the ground and around the rocks.  The stream is not deep and only a meter or two wide throughout.  I heard some birds and saw small animals like squirrels and a chipmunk.
