Smith. I am a senior staff counselor at the Center for Health & Wellbeing’s Counseling & Psychiatry Services (CAPS). I also serve as the Men’s Outreach Coordinator (MOC). I have served in this dual position since 2006. The position of MOC is innovative and unprecedented in a university setting. I provide general counseling, clinical assessment, and referral and case management services specifically geared toward male students. I also provide consultation, education, training, and programming to the UVM community on issues related to healthy masculine identity development, violence prevention as well as assisting in coordination of the campus-wide response to gender based and sexual violence.

I decided to start a blog in response to what I saw as a lack of on-going dialogue about men and masculinity, and as a means of expressing my individual perspective on these issues. Prior to and during my six years of working as a counselor and educator, I have had the extraordinary opportunity to work with a wide range of men in a variety of settings and circumstances. I believe that these experiences continue to provide me with a unique perspective with regard to men and masculinity. It is my hope that others will find my perspective interesting, compelling, and informative.

Greetings, My name is Keith E.
