Upon entering the natural area, it is about a 15 minute walk from the entrance to the place I chose. A loose description of how to get there would be to take the main path until the clearing with the pine trees with severe branch scarring. From here, continue left until you reach the flood plain with a few pine and birch trees. Then, traverse down the hill to the small stream and use the stepping stones to get across. Walk to the right and continue onto the bridge made of wooden planks, then up a hill into the older growth forest. From there, walk a bit up the hill and locate a large fallen log with mushrooms growing out of it. This is my spot! I chose it mostly because of how gorgeous it was, but also because I was interested in the biodiversity provided by the many mushrooms around the area. I want to be able to monitor the different species as the weather gets colder to see how they adapt. I’d also like to see how they contribute to the decomposition of the large log at the centerpiece of my chosen spot. Further, there is a lot of dense tree coverage, as this is the older part of the woods, and I’d love to see how it looks in the snow!

✩Vegetation and Most Common Woody Plants✩

╰┈➤ Mix of conifers, deciduous trees, and shrubs

Older Eastern White Pines

Northern Red Oak

Ferns

Poison Ivy

Younger Red Maples

Extremely Young White Oaks

Sugar Maple

Sparse Paper Birch

White Ash

The pin with the heart indicates where my spot is.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

When approaching from the stream bank, this is the view of the spot I’ve chosen.
