Gibraltar

Friday August 6th.

Ah. The Rock of Gibraltar.  Gibraltar is a British overseas territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance of the Mediterranean. We are stopping there but not touching land (well, except for our anchors). We need to take on fuel. Bunkering.  Gilbraltar was ceded to Britain by Spain under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. We dropped our anchors, sat head-to-wind, a fuel ship came alongside. And we filled er up. Took 8 hours. Then up-anchor and away for Morocco.

Sea Olympics!

Each SAS voyage they hold the Sea Olympics. Opening ceremonies are the night before, with a parade of teams proudly carrying their banners and wearing their colors. Each team is named for one of the seas. Adriatic, Carribean..etc. This year the faculty staff was rebranded. Previously competing as the Dead Sea, this year, with increased aspirations, we competed as the “Diploma Sea”. (Cause we already got ours). White was our color, and (drum roll please) we did NOT finish last. Up against young, strong, handsome students, we used our remaining strength, well developed endurance, brain-power, and promises to some of the judges to finish second! (second from last).

I competed proudly (but not particularly successfully) in ice-cube chop-stick, mashed potato sculpting, tug-of-war, and crab soccer. For your enjoyment, witness the pomp and circumstance of the Summer 2010 Sea Olympics!

Big Red and True Blue

By this time Big Red and True Blue had just about seen it all. They’d been up to the ITBR on the Detroit River.

They’d been out to the spring Maritime Festival in Seattle. This time they were takin it easy and letting someone else do the driving.

But that got pretty boring pretty quick, so BR and TB decided to go mano-et-mano in the pool.

So they headed for the cabin door

After the races, Big Red and True blue got the wash-and-wax treatment, a little touch up paint, and headed for the faculty lounge for some shenanigans.
