1/27/24 Visit
Most of the tracks I saw at my place during this visit were recognizable as human or dog tracks. Other tracks were difficult to recognize because of the rain and the snow melting. These are some of the tracks I could not recognize.
Burlington Wildlife Activity
I could not make it to any Burlington natural areas farther off campus this week, so I chose to walk around the greens on campus. I mostly saw Eastern Gray Squirrel prints, and one print I could not identify but think may have been a Cottontail. Using iNaturalist was very easy once I joined the project.
I identified all of the photos above as Eastern Grey squirrels, because of the size of the print and the gait pattern. I had trouble with the one in the middle, because it had been filled in with fresh snow, but I felt confident in my identification because the trail led directly to the base of a tree, where it stopped, which ruled out Cottontail Rabbit. The photo on the left seemed to be multiple squirrels that interacted, but I couldn’t tell exactly how many. There were clearer prints farther away from the group, but my phone after I took the photo, and I couldn’t take a picture of them.
