This week, a friend and I went down to salmon hole to look for a tree to follow for the rest of the year. I found a small red maple tree that was not flowering and only had tiny buds. I could tell that this tree was a red maple and not a Norway maple because of the bark. The red maple’s bark is more silver, smooth, and smaller than the Norway maple’s bark. While at salmon hole, I also found tons of mayflies that were on-top of, and underneath the snow. Everywhere we walked, there were at least 20 mayflies visible. There were also recent tracks from what I believe to be a raccoon, along with a tree that had been sawed by beavers.
