{"id":128,"date":"2010-07-06T13:26:02","date_gmt":"2010-07-06T17:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drjuliesmithdairyblog.wordpress.com\/?p=128"},"modified":"2011-05-17T11:44:42","modified_gmt":"2011-05-17T15:44:42","slug":"exercising-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/jmsmith\/2010\/07\/06\/exercising-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Exercising Plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Addison County, we identify and prioritize training and exercises during an annual training and exercise workshop.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency operations plans (EOP) must be \u201cexercised\u201d to make sure they are up-to-date and that everyone involved understands their role.\u00a0 Think of \u201cexercising\u201d in this context like \u201cpracticing.\u201d\u00a0 Just like athletes practice specific skills that will be performed as needed in a game, responding agencies or organizations need to practice meeting capabilities that could be called on in an emergency event.\u00a0 Exercises are capabilities-driven rather than event-driven.\u00a0 Granted the scenario may be a train derailment, but the capabilities being exercised such as activating the emergency operations center, requesting a state resource such as the state HazMat (hazardous materials) team, and evacuating a school could apply to many other scenarios as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Addison County, we identify and prioritize training and exercises during an annual training and exercise workshop.
