November 8 Update

This weeks assignment was to either make an event map or write a poem about our phenology spot. I have chosen to write a poem rather than making the event map. Above the poem, I have included some new and recent photos of my spot. The photos are a bit difficult to entirely see with the bright sun staring right into my camera lens.

This is a photo of some common milkweed found in the open parts of my spot. There was a lot around this area, as well as some maple and white pine trees. Levine, J. (November 6th, 2020).
Some more evidence of human impact on this spot, with another mention to this ~famous~ metal fence. There is a sign posted on this fence mentioning that the Burlington Country Club is closed due to COVID-19. Levine, J. (November 6th, 2020).
Here is a blurry photo of a red squirrel snacking on a nut. He was making super cute noises and I thought he deserved to be included 🙂 Levine, J. (November 6th, 2020).

My poem:

“Welcomed”

The crisp, fresh air breathing in and out of my lungs,

The leaves crunching under my feet.

The colors of the leaves swirling around me, making me feel welcomed.

The red maples standing at the entrance,

Opening the gates for me.

Inviting me into their home, making me feel welcomed.

The sound of the squirrels snacking on nuts,

The knocks of the woodpeckers performing their day jobs.

The calming noises of the woods, making me feel welcomed.

The old metal fence still standing in place,

The trees growing around and through it.

The trees embracing the fence into their home, making it feel welcomed.

Thank you to these woods, for summoning all of us together.

Creating a calm and lovely bubble, making all of us feel welcomed.

The peaceful noise and the beautiful autumn air aromas,

The few leaves remaining on trees, the feeling of the brisk, invigorating atmosphere

Creating an overwhelming sense of content, making us feel welcomed.
