The Redstone Quarry is located a short walk down Southwest from Redstone campus. To get there, you walk down South Prospect Street until you have the option to turn right onto Ledge Road. You continue down Ledge Road, and before reaching Shelburne Road, you will see an opening in the foliage to the left, on the left side of the street. This opening takes you to a trail which will lead you to the quarry after a short walk through the woods.
I chose this site as the subject for my phenology blog because it is peaceful and unique. The Redstone Quarry has interesting rock faces, an array of vegetation, and woody plants. At the Redstone quarry, one can find moss in the cracks of the rocks, little grasses and wildflowers, and bright lichen. Trees such as the staghorn sumac, white ash, and cedar populate the area.
