I went looking for animal signs in the greater Burlington area with my camera to make some iNaturalist postings. I took my camera along as well and found some interesting evidence of animal activity.

I observed both Gray Squirrel tracks and Field mouse tracks in this area surrounding an entrance subnivean zone. It was cool to see all the way into the tunnels, the entrance was pretty big right into the snow by this old stump.

I saw this Black Capped Chickadee take off right here, the print it left with its wings was really cool. There are also some shrew or mouse track right nearby, I wonder if they were there at the same time and if there was an interaction there. There was another hole entering the subnivean zone nearby these prints as well.

I photographed this American Beech tree as well which I thought was interesting, still held onto almost all of its leaves in stark contrast to the trees in the background which are entirely barren of leaves.
I did most of my exploration right near campus in the surrounding neighborhoods. It was really cool to get a peek into the animal world that is happening right around us every day.
