He is in his final year at the University of
Vermont pursuing a degree in Community and International Development with a
minor in Food Systems. His role this year at Huertas will include both Field
Intern responsibilities, as well as piloting a music program for the project!
Eamon is interested in discovering the musical needs/preferences of the Latinx
migrant community here in Vermont. As a drummer and a passionate music
advocate, Eamon believes that all people should have access to music.

            When asked
why he applied to become a part of this project, Eamon pointed to a variety of
factors. First, as a Community Development and Food Systems student, he
believes that it is extremely important to have a role in local food justice,
especially in the current political climate in the United States today. Second,
he has important immigrants in his life, including his mother, who came to the
United States from the Philippines as a child. He stated that while he never
directly had to confront the difficulties of immigration, he has heard a lot
about the struggle of adjusting to the United States as an immigrant.

In the future, Eamon hopes to work in sustainable food systems in some capacity (ideally, he wants to own a farm or a restaurant). Eamon believes that his internship with Huertas will help him improve his Spanish and general communication skills, networking skills, time management abilities, and understanding of the vibe of nonprofit work. This season he is most excited to see the gardens come to fruition and see the actual impact of his work. His goal for this semester is to get at least one person in the Latinx migrant farm community an instrument that they want.

************************************************************************

¡Bienvenidos, Eamon!

Eamon es uno de los becarios de campo por el proyecto de Huertas esta estación. Él está en su año final a la Universidad de Vermont persiguiendo un grado en el Desarrollo Comunitario y Internacional con un menor en los Sistemas Alimentarios.
