Alex studies Public Communication and hopes to facilitate conversation and awareness about the Huertas project this semester. Alex first heard about Huertas while taking Professor Rachael Montesano’s service-learning course, Composition and Conversation. The class partners with Huertas in sowing seeds in the spring for participants. Having the opportunity to garden in combination with Spanish was a perfect mix of Alex’s interests.

Alex continued to deepen her knowledge in this specific area after traveling to Chile for the semester in 2017. Alex studied the ways in which food affects one’s cultural identity and is used as a tool to preserve one’s heritage and maintain tradition. Alex wanted to continue doing work in this field upon her arrival back in the U.S. Her knowledge of the Latinx farmworker population in Vermont from Rachael Montesano’s class caused her to reach out to Huertas and find ways she could get involved. As the communications intern, Alex hopes to use her creativity to bring visibility and support to the Latinx farmworker population.

Alex Rose es nuestra becaria de medios y comunicaciones por 2018.
