She is our other Field Intern and a major in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Food, Land, and Community. Her main draw to Huertas was her previous work with Dr. Teresa Mares, the co-director of Huertas, and her study abroad experience in Oaxaca, Mexico where she studied Food Systems and Community Development. On a recent visit to Mexico, she visited all the families she worked with while in Oaxaca during her 2016 spring semester and wanted to be able to incorporate the work she did there back in Vermont. Kate hopes to learn more about Vermont\u2019s local farm economy, while fostering relationships with individuals and families. She is also very excited about learning more on food justice issues, practicing her Spanish skills, and meeting some adorable kids!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a1Conoce a Kate! Ella es la otra ayudante de campo y estudia Estudios Ambientales con una concentraci\u00f3n en Comida, Tierra y Comunidad en UVM. Se interes\u00f3 en Huertas principalmente por haber trabajado con Dra. Teresa Mares, la codirectora de Huertas, y por pasar un semestre en Oaxaca, M\u00e9xico donde estudi\u00f3 Sistemas Alimentarios y Desarrollo Comunitario. Recientemente, visit\u00f3 las familias con las que trabaj\u00f3 en Oaxaca en el 2016 y quer\u00eda incorporar el trabajo que realiz\u00f3 en M\u00e9xico con alguna actividad u organizaci\u00f3n en Vermont y Huertas fue el proyecto ideal. Kate espera aprender m\u00e1s sobre la econom\u00eda de las granjas locales en Vermont, al igual que desarrollar relaciones con los individuos y las familias. \u00a1Tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 muy emocionada para aprender m\u00e1s sobre el tema de justicia alimentaria, practicar su Espa\u00f1ol y conocer a los ni\u00f1os(as) peque\u00f1os!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Meet Kate!
