¡Hola!
Me llamo Hannah y soy otra de las nuevas pasantes para el programa Huertas. Estoy muy emocionada por la oportunidad de sembrar y colaborar con participantes del programa. Estudio el sistema de comida en la Universidad de Vermont con subespecialidades en las ciencias de la tierra, agroecología y música. El programa de Huertas me interesa porque siempre estoy tratando de aprender más sobre nuestro sistema de comida. También, tomé clases de español durante la escuela primaria hasta la universidad y amo hablar y conversar en español. En adición, quiero aprender sobre la perspectiva de trabajadores migrantes en Vermont porque en el año pasado, aprendí la importancia de ellos a la industria láctea en Vermont. La comida y la seguridad alimentaria es mi pasión y creo que es un derecho humano. Estoy emocionada para formar parte de un proyecto que trabaja con trabajadores migrantes en Vermont para aumentar la soberanía alimentaria.
Mi experiencia con Huertas ha sido muy interesante e informativa. Durante el descanso de invierno, aprendí mucho sobre el sistema migratorio y cómo este sistema influye y hace daño a los trabajadores migrantes en Vermont. También siendo una pasante para Huertas he podido tomar una clase a través de UVM Extensión que se llama el curso de ‘Master Gardener’. He aprendido sobre la salud de la tierra, los insectos, la biología de las plantas, y la planificación de jardínes. Estoy emocionada para el resto del curso y no puedo esperar para sembrar durante la primavera con los participantes.
Similar a lo que dijo Amelia en su perfil, quiero ser una persona informada en que los participantes pueden confiar. Me encanta conectar con personas y me gusta como la estructura del programa anima a pasantes y participantes a hacer conexiones. También, estoy muy emocionada para la posibilidad de enseñar o planear clases de cocina. Amo cocinar y estoy agradecida que la posición me da la oportunidad de incorporar mis pasiones y experiencia personal con otras personas involucradas con el proyecto.

Hi!
My name is Hannah and I am one of the other new interns for the Huertas program. I am very excited for the opportunity to grow kitchen gardens and collaborate with participants in the program. I am studying food systems at the University of Vermont along with minors in soil science, agroecology, and music. The Huertas program interests me because I am always trying to learn more about our food system. Also, I took Spanish classes during elementary school until college and I love to talk and converse in Spanish. In addition, I wanted to learn more about the perspective of migrant farmworkers in Vermont after having learned about how integral they are to the state’s dairy industry in the past. Food and food security is my passion and I believe it is a human right. I am thrilled to be a part of a project that works to provide fresh food and promote food sovereignty for migrant farmworkers in Vermont.
So far, my experience with Huertas has been very interesting and informative. During winter break, I learned a lot more about the migration system and how it affects and disadvantages Vermont’s migrant farmworkers. Also through this internship, I have been able to take a class through UVM extension called the ‘Master Gardener’ course. Already, I have learned about soil health, insects, plant biology, and garden planning. I am excited for the rest of the course and can’t wait to garden in the spring with participants!
Similar to what Amelia said in her profile, I want to be an informed person that participants can confide in, especially regarding their huertas, but also other things. I love connecting with people and I like how the format of the Huertas program encourages interns and participants to make connections with each other. Also, I am very excited about the possibility of teaching or planning cooking classes. I love cooking and I appreciate that this position gives me the opportunity to incorporate and share some of my passions and personal experience.
