{"id":1463,"date":"2011-03-04T10:06:42","date_gmt":"2011-03-04T14:06:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/extension\/cropsoil\/?p=1463"},"modified":"2011-03-04T10:06:42","modified_gmt":"2011-03-04T14:06:42","slug":"1463","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/hoppenin\/2011\/03\/04\/1463\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Educator &#8211; NYS Hops Specialist Job Posting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span style=\"font-family: Times,Times New Roman\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.madisoncountycce.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cornell  Cooperative Extension of Madison County<\/a>, in conjunction with the  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northeasthopalliance.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Northeast Hop Alliance<\/a>, is hiring a Community Educator &#8211; NYS Hops  Specialist.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The CCE Educator will work with growers throughout New York State to re-establish commercial specialty hop production.<\/p>\n<p>The CCE educator will:<br \/>\n\u2022 Provide growers with the knowledge and resources to produce high quality hop crops;<br \/>\n\u2022 Plan, market, promote, and lead Hops courses for interested growers;<br \/>\n\u2022 Be available during the growing season to field hop related phone calls and make personal visits to farms that request it;<br \/>\n\u2022 Establish resources within the state that have the ability to test and analyze the alpha and beta chemicals in the hop cones;<br \/>\n\u2022 Form strategic alliances with people interested in all aspects of hops production throughout NYS and the Northeast<\/p>\n<p>Required Qualifications: Bachelor\u2019s degree; At least 1 year of  experience working with farmers doing field work, extension education  and\/or outreach; Interest in\/familiarity with hops and\/or brewing;  effective written and verbal communication skills; organizational and  time-management skills<\/p>\n<p>Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor\u2019s degree in horticulture or  horticulture related transcript; experience with, or knowledge of hops;  coursework in soils, plant physiology, entomology, agricultural  economics, education and communication.<\/p>\n<p>The position is flexible and can be part time or full-time. There is  funding available for one and a half to two years through a NYS  Specialty Crops Grant. The position may include a full New York State  benefits package \u2013 health\/dental insurance, retirement, and vacation.
