Hello! This is the final post on this blog. I hope it was as enjoyable to read as it was for me to write.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My site is lush with life when I walk towards it. There are other people enjoying the warm, sunny day around me, so I try to be quiet to not disturb them. The lively energy radiating from the site and the emerging leaves and buds starkly contrast the mostly brown and dormant aura from February. The Rhododendron at my site is nearly ready to bloom massively, contributing to the pollen that makes snivel in the air. Its so green– I almost feel unworthy of being in such a green space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The giant Eastern White Pines in my site always stick out to me, as they seem resistant to change and create a nice sound when the air blows through them. Just like my Pines at home– a comforting sound. While my site is mostly grass, there’s a Cedar in the corner of my site next to a giant Rhododendron bush that I accidentally body-slammed my friend into when I lost my balance last week. Other than those big landmarks, there are two patches of small saplings and grass in my site (likely Beeches) that divide the swath of grass before the more woodland area begins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My site is close to Redstone– from what my roommate told me, my site is a place that stoners like to party or get high at. I never considered that when choosing my site, but this site is directly on University property, as a green space amongst residential areas. It is meant as a space for students to go and feel connected to nature, to Vermont and as a source of comfort or a place to meet with friends. However, this site, as any other site here, is on unceded Abenaki land– there is a history of colonialism in this land that should beg some reverence from students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve never considered myself a part of my space. I distance myself easily from nature, especially since I think that my presence makes it less sacred, less beautiful. I don’t want to see myself as a blot on an otherwise beautiful and living panorama, so I tend to think of nature as a spring of water that I can sip from– I cannot become the water, but I can enjoy it all the same. I get that it seems like I’m distancing humanity from nature, to which I would disagree. We are all connected to nature, the natural world and humanity are like fraternal twins– they’re interconnected. I just feel like an outsider when it comes to beautiful things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
