The Bunker

Introduction: This is a mysterious area found inside Centennial Woods. I found this area while exploring and immediately fell down the intriguing rabbit hole of its origin. Colloquially known as “The Bunker” there is little information known about this historical artifact. However, UVM alumnus and local natural historian, Teage O’Connor1 has hypothesized that The Bunker was used as part of a rifle range in preparation of WW1. Now, while definitely impacted by human interaction, The Bunker is on its way to become reclaimed by nature.

Flora: The plants in the immediate area are primarily underbrush and invasive. Honeysuckle and Siberian Crabapple are particularly abundant. However, the surrounding area is mainly composed of natives trees including Paper Birches, Red Maples, and Northern Red Oaks.
