For my Phenology Project place, I chose Centennial Woods. I chose a spot far into the forest right next to Centennial Brook. To get to my place, you walk down past the Medical Center to get to the entrance to Centennial Woods. I followed the path until I was at a bend very close to the brook.

The entrance to Centennial Woods.

I chose Centennial Woods as my place because I loved it when we went for our first lab. I really liked how well kept the paths were, and the light flowing through the trees made the forest look beautiful. I chose my specific spot along the brook because I love the sound of flowing water. It is very relaxing and reminds me of the ocean at home!

I observed a lot of tall grass along the brook. Many thorny and woody shrubs covered the forest floor in my area. There were a lot of ferns as well. Some specific vegetation I observed in my spot also includes…

  • Moss (on trees and rocks)
  • American Beech Tree
  • Norway Maple Tree
  • Poison Ivy
  • Common Buckthorn
  • Barberry Bushes
Norway Maple Tree with tar spots.

I visited my place right after it had rained, so everything was very wet and muddy. The brook was flowing very fast. The leaves were all changing, and I got to see some beautiful foliage as I walked through the woods!
