George (&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/views\/2009\/04\/13\/george\">Admissions of Another Sort<\/a>&#8221; April 13, 2009) ponders the student library research experience and wonders: &#8220;If there is a discrepancy between pedagogical intent and actual student research behavior, how do faculty members address it?&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Here are several statements she has encountered from students. Read the engaging article for her speculations on the &#8220;cause and cure&#8221; of these statements.<\/p>\n<p>1. &#8220;I have no idea [about the dates or details of my topic].&#8221;<br \/>2. I\u2019m wondering why I can\u2019t I find this periodical article in the library\u2019s catalog.<br \/>3. This magazine isn\u2019t digitized, so I guess we don\u2019t have it and I can\u2019t get it.<br \/>4. I need to change my topic because there\u2019s not enough stuff [sic] about it.<br \/>5. I\u2019m not clear about what makes an article scholarly or a book a monograph.<br \/>6. I can\u2019t find books about [an event that occurred last month].<br \/>7. I\u2019m confused about the difference between a primary and a secondary source.<br \/>8.
