Sponsored by the Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts at Wabash<br \/>\nCollege , Academic Commons publishes essays,<br \/>\nreviews, interviews, showcases of innovative uses of technology, and<br \/>\nvignettes that critically examine technology uses in the classroom. Academic<br \/>\nCommons aims to share knowledge, develop collaborations, and evaluate and<br \/>\ndisseminate digital tools and innovative practices for teaching and learning<br \/>\nwith technology. We want this site to advance opportunities for<br \/>\ncollaborative design, open development, and rigorous peer critique of such<br \/>\nresources.<br \/>\nAcademic Commons also provides a forum for academic technology projects and<br \/>\ngroups (the Developer’s Kit) and a link to a new learning object referatory<br \/>\n(LoLa). Our library archives all materials we have published and also<br \/>\nprovides links to allied organizations, mailing lists, blogs, and journals<br \/>\nthrough a Professional Development Center.<br \/>\nHighlights of our First Edition<br \/>\nThe first edition of Academic Commons features essays by Richard Lanham<br \/>\n(“Copyright 101”), Michael Joyce (“Interspace: Our Commonly Valued<br \/>\nUnknowing”), Patricia O’Neill and Janet Simons (“Using Technology in<br \/>\nLearning to Speak the Language of Film”), and Michelle Glaros (“The Dangers<br \/>\nof Just-In-Time Education”), and an interview with Gerald Graff. The issue<br \/>\nalso includes two teaching and learning “vignettes,” a good handful of<br \/>\nreviews (websites, hardware, and software) and showcases (exemplary academic<br \/>\nweb projects), and links to a variety of interesting teaching, learning, and<br \/>\ntechnology projects. We’ve already formed a number of groups onsite and look<br \/>\nforward to more participation.
