Centennial Woods Phenology
Hello all! Today, October 11th, I went and sat in Centennial Woods. While there I looked at all the sights and listened to all the sounds of the forest. The forest floor was dominated by Intermediate wood ferns. There wasn’t much variety in the understory with only a few little trees spaced out. There were two young American witch-hazel trees near where I sat, but even they were tiny. The main tree species was white pine, towering over me by there lonesome, with dozens of feet between each tree. The air was crisp with no wind at all. My spot is deep enough to where I didn’t hear anything but the leaves crunching beneath me. My spot is in a drainage which caused the ground to be pretty wet. This may be why the dominate woody plant is a fern. Unfortunately I didn’t see any wildlife, but it have been there waiting for a more observational eye to find it.
