{"id":1472,"date":"2018-09-04T09:59:13","date_gmt":"2018-09-04T13:59:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/farmvia\/?p=1472"},"modified":"2018-09-04T10:05:04","modified_gmt":"2018-09-04T14:05:04","slug":"dairy-summit-and-industry-proposals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/farmvia\/?p=1472","title":{"rendered":"Dairy Summit and Industry Proposals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Posted by Betsy Miller, UVM Extension Farm Viability Coordinator<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On August 13, 2018 Agri-Mark hosted a Dairy Summit in Albany, NY.\u00a0 This was an opportunity for farmers and dairy industry representatives to discuss the current state of dairy pricing and to offer proposals for a new structure.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals posted on the website share a common theme of supply management and price stabilization.\u00a0 Many suggest a pro-active approach lead by co-ops.\u00a0 Expansion of current farms and entry of new farms into the business are both areas that offer challenges to the idea of a quota system.\u00a0\u00a0 All seem to agree that this is a complex problem that doesn\u2019t have an easy solution.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals are available to read and comment on at this site:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/dairyproposals2018.com\">https:\/\/dairyproposals2018.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The UVM Extension Farm Viability program provides one on one business planning to farm owners in Vermont.
