My Place

This is my phenology place. It is located in the Southern part of Centennial woods one bench up above the brook. This is a small ridge with a large portion of hemlock trees, Click Here for a Google Map with a point showing exactly where my spot is. I look forward to updating and continuing my exploration of this place.

I chose this place because it had a lot of large trees and is a spot I hope to find a large array of animals traveling through. To get to this place, just enter Centennial Woods on the path and continue up the hill following the path, you will walk around the rim of a naturally formed bowl and once you get to the other side you will see a large downed log off the right side of the trail. That log is my spot along with the area around it. There isn’t a lot of diversity in the trees. Within a 20 yard circle from my spot there are 12 Hemlock, 1 Maple, 1 Ash and 1 Yellow Birch in the overstory. In the understory if that same circle there were 17 young maples, and 2 hemlocks. There is a lot of ground vegetation consisting mostly of ferns and moss. This, along with the high concentration of Hemlocks may indicate a more acidic soil in this area.
