{"id":500,"date":"2013-08-27T12:14:38","date_gmt":"2013-08-27T16:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/envs\/?p=500"},"modified":"2013-08-27T12:14:38","modified_gmt":"2013-08-27T16:14:38","slug":"internship-changing-planet-internship-charlotte-central-school-vt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/envs\/2013\/08\/27\/internship-changing-planet-internship-charlotte-central-school-vt\/","title":{"rendered":"INTERNSHIP: Changing Planet Internship, Charlotte Central School, VT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Help educate the environmental leaders of the future!<\/p>\n<p><b>Announcing the \u201cOur Changing Planet\u201d Internship at Charlotte Central School (CCS)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Synopsis:\u00a0<\/b> Help third graders [ 7 and 8 years old ] understand that the Earth is always changing and that we have a dynamic relationship with our planet.\u00a0 Learn to use hands on activities to help children investigate forces of nature and their part in the planet\u2019s story.\u00a0 Then use Jan Reynolds\u2019, \u201cVanishing Cultures\u201d series and your knowledge of ecosystems and the environment to take the children on a journey to indigenous cultures on one of the continents.\u00a0 Help the children become experts on a specific biome and indigenous culture.\u00a0 Guide them in making connections between the land, its climate, plants, and animals, and the development of that culture.\u00a0 Explore how planetary changes and technology are changing the traditional way of life for the people they studied.<\/p>\n<p><b>When:\u00a0<\/b> Fall Semester 2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dates:\u00a0 August 26th \u2013 December 13th<br \/>\n<b>Number of Internships Positions:<\/b>\u00a0 2<br \/>\n<b>Credits:\u00a0<\/b> 6\u00a0 or use as a senior project \/ thesis<\/p>\n<p><b>Contact Person:<\/b>\u00a0 Cher Feitelberg, M. Ed.\u00a0 <a>cfeitelberg@gmail.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Inquiry Meeting Options<\/b><br \/>\nMonday, August 26, 2013 at Stonehedge Townhouses\u00a0 OR\u00a0 at TBA as a result of match day for NR 206\u00a0 OR\u00a0 inquiries based on this posting on the Environmental Studies site<br \/>\nPlease email Cher at <a>cfeitelberg@gmail.com<\/a>\u00a0 to confirm your interest in the internship<\/p>\n<p>*A fun way to do this internship is sign up with a friend!*<br \/>\n<b><br \/>\nTime Commitment:<\/b><br \/>\nOffsite partner prep time and independent reading<\/p>\n<p><b>On CCS campus time:<\/b><br \/>\nMondays from 3:30 &#8211; 6:30 p.m.\u00a0 Pre-planning Session with Cher<br \/>\nWednesdays\u00a0 12:30 \u2013 3:30 p.m.\u00a0 Small group [ 4 or 5 students &amp; you] lessons and research facilitated by you<br \/>\nFridays\u00a0\u00a0 7:30 \u2013 10:30 a.m.\u00a0\u00a0 Hands on Science Labs or Project Time facilitated by you\u00a0 [8 \u2013 10 children:2 interns\u00a0 or\u00a0\u00a0 a 4 \u2013 5:1 experience]<\/p>\n<p><b>Quick Overview<\/b><br \/>\nMost of your work will focus on small groups of 4 or 5 children.\u00a0 During the first 8 \u2013 9 weeks of school we will explore the structure of the Earth, the forces of nature, and the rock cycle.\u00a0 We will work primarily as a whole intern \/ teacher team.\u00a0 This will provide you with the support and time needed to build your skills as an environmental teacher \/ leader.\u00a0 In the second half of the semester, you will work with the same small group of children each week.\u00a0 You will be their teacher \/ leader as they investigate and analyze a specific biome and culture.\u00a0 The children will form groups of 4 \u2013 7 students and pick which biome or culture they want to research and explore:\u00a0 The Sami [reindeer people of Norway], the Mongolian horse people of the steppe, the Tuareg [Blue People of the Sahara (camels)], The People of the Yak [Himalayas],\u00a0 or the Masai [the People of the Savannah].\u00a0 Check out Jan Reynolds\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.janreynolds.com\/\" target=\"k5r4BZum_QlSHNAfJUSy38A\">http:\/\/www.janreynolds.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Professional Development Outcomes for You<\/b><br \/>\nExperience in designing and leading investigations and inquiry activities for children<br \/>\nA professional portfolio to use in job interviews of activities and skills you have developed<br \/>\nExperience in teaching and facilitating small group instruction of young children<br \/>\nProfessional collaboration and teamwork skills<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Help educate the environmental leaders of the future!
