{"id":226,"date":"2013-03-12T11:56:14","date_gmt":"2013-03-12T15:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/envs\/?p=226"},"modified":"2013-03-12T11:56:14","modified_gmt":"2013-03-12T15:56:14","slug":"internship-paid-summer-climate-change-internships-with-national-park-servicemasons-4c","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/envs\/2013\/03\/12\/internship-paid-summer-climate-change-internships-with-national-park-servicemasons-4c\/","title":{"rendered":"INTERNSHIP: Paid summer climate change internships with National Park Service\/Mason&#8217;s 4C"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Climate Change Communication Paid Internships, Summer 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>National Park Service (National Capital Region)&amp;<\/p>\n<p>George Mason University\u2019s Center for Climate Change Communication<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Deadline: March 31, 2013<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Park Service (NPS) cares for special places saved by the American people so that all may experience our heritage.\u00a0 In this capacity, NPS is in a unique position to observe changes brought about by global warming, and to engage park visitors and neighbors in conversations about climate change.\u00a0 George Mason University\u2019s Center for Climate Change Communication (4C) conducts research on, and teaches about, climate change public engagement strategies.<\/p>\n<p>Seven interns will have the opportunity to work with 4C, NPS park staff and the NPS\u2019s Urban Ecology Research Learning Alliance on climate change communication projects at National Parks\u00a0 in the Greater Washington, D.C. area in the summer of 2013.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 10-week internships are open to graduate students or exceptional rising senior undergraduate students studying in any relevant field.\u00a0 \u00a0Students must be attending a U.S. accredited college or university and must be legally allowed to work in the U.S.\u00a0 \u00a0All interns must pass a Federal government background check.<\/p>\n<p>Please indicate in your resume and cover letter your experience or knowledge on the following::<\/p>\n<p>-Background in communication, marketing. journalism, social science, or environmental sciences<\/p>\n<p>-Experience with social media in an organizational context<\/p>\n<p>-Volunteering or volunteer management experience<\/p>\n<p>-Outdoor education, interpretation or natural resource management experience<\/p>\n<p>One intern will serve the multimedia production needs of the intern team. This individual should have a background in visual and audio media, including photography, videography, sound\/radio production, and\/or graphic design.\u00a0 If you would like to be considered for this position, please indicate so in your cover letter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dates, Duration, and Location<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Internships are full time (40 hours per week) for ten weeks, running from June 17 to August 23, 2013, with the possibility of extension through early September for individual interns if there schedule permits.\u00a0 \u00a0All work will take place in the Washington, DC metro area.\u00a0 Housing is not provided.\u00a0 Having a personal vehicle is strongly recommended but not required<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stipend<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interns will be paid $250 per week, paid biweekly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applicants should submit the following materials (combined as one PDF file with applicant\u2019s name as the file name) to <a href=\"https:\/\/webmail.uvm.edu\/imp\/#\">jrolfere@gmu.edu<\/a> with \u201cNPS4C:[Applicant Name]\u201d as the subject line:\u00a0 (1) your resume or CV; (2) your undergraduate and\/or graduate transcript (unofficial is acceptable); (3) a one page cover letter discussing your specific interest in the internship and highlighting your qualifications.\u00a0 The cover letter should also contain the name, contact information, and nature of the relationship (e.g., professor, employer) for two individuals who may serve as a reference.
