TRK serves children ages k-8 in the Tualatin River watershed, primarily Washington County. School field trips and summer day camps take place outside at Summer Creek Natural Area in Tigard. The position includes both community leadership and direct service with children. Fundraising including grant preparation and reporting and contract management are significant duties.

Zion National Park Summer Internship 2013

Zion National Park offers a summer internship for 14 to 16 weeks from mid-May to Labor Day. This internship provides students or recent graduates with practical work experience in visitor services and interpretation in a busy national park. After training, the intern will present tours and programs for the public on the natural and cultural history of Zion. The individual will also staff the information desk and complete projects as assigned.

Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Geographic Information Systems

The Bard Center for Environmental Policy  in Annandale-on-Hudson NY is seeking a teaching assistant for GIS: Tools for Analysis class spring semester 2013.  This is a unique opportunity to teach students in a Masters of Environmental Policy or Masters in Climate Science and Policy program how to employ spatial analysis and mapping into their research.  This position requires someone with strong capabilities in GIS and spatial analysis as well as a person with great communication and teaching skills.  The teaching assistant will work with the instructor during two sections of the course on Wednesdays throughout the Spring 2013 semester.

Desired skills include:

  • ·      Experience using ESRI’s ArcGIS suite of software including the Spatial, 3D, Network and Geostatistical Analyst extensions.
  • ·      Familiarity with open source GIS tools such as QGIS and GeoData.
  • ·      Ability to produce high quality cartographic products.
  • ·      Experience using GPS to conduct spatial data inventories.
  • ·      Familiarity with local, regional, national and global environmental issues.

The mission of SCA New Hampshire Conservation Corps is to serve the communities and lands of New Hampshire by accomplishing significant conservation service projects, enhancing and protecting natural areas and providing environmental education to promote the understanding and stewardship of these natural areas. In the tradition of the Civilian Conservation Corps, members perform direct hands on service while building their leadership skills and developing their ethic of service and citizenship.

From January through April, members develop and implement hands-on experiential science based curriculum for 3rd and 4th grade classrooms in and around Manchester and Allenstown, NH. The schools of Manchester, NH are the most diverse in the state and reflect the changing face of modern New England. Corps members will also serve in multiple after school programs in the area as mentors, tutors and counselors. As spring arrives in New Hampshire you will transition into running our field trip program in which we host day trips at Bear Brook State Park for NH schools.

During the summer and fall months, you will serve as an Interpretive Ranger with NH State and City Parks.  In this position you will work independently at one of several parks throughout the state: Franconia Notch (home to the state’s best rock climbing and most scenic high ridges), Monadnock (home to the most visited mountain in the world and countless wilderness hiking trails), Greenfield (site of the first cultivated blueberries), White Lake (a pristine glacial kettle pond), Pawtuckaway (home to the state’s best bouldering) and Manchester city parks (recreational areas for the diverse populations of Manchester).  Duties will include: developing and conducting evening campfire programs, leading nature walks, developing children’s programs and activities at campgrounds and city parks, patrolling trails, providing hiker information, assisting search and rescue operations, and other duties to be determined.

The SCA NH Conservation Corps program is residential by nature and we are based in a camp facility in the heart of 10,000 acre Bear Brook State Park in central New Hampshire. Surrounded by rolling hills, wetlands, ponds, brooks and pine and hemlock forests, our basecamp is an ideal place to live, work and play. You will serve as part of a Corps of 30 members and will share small cabins and a large community lodge. All members assist with camp chores such as facility maintenance, cleaning, cooking, snow shoveling, splitting wood, etc… Members who partake in this program will work hard and are expected to contribute and serve as active community members.  Together, we will model a sustainable and positive community work ethic.

Members will receive the following trainings and certifications: Wilderness First Responder, CPR, Comprehensive 3-week Education training, Leadership and Conflict Resolution, teamwork skills, and minimum – impact camping.

Members will receive room and board, health insurance, $75 weekly stipend and $5350 AmeriCorps educational award.

Require: College degree or significant progress towards degree in Education, Interpretation or Science-related field; 21 – 25 years of age; first aid and CPR certification; personal vehicle; and desire to work with youth and work outdoors.

As spring arrives in New Hampshire you will transition onto one of our Conservation Crews. From April through October, corps members work on conservation crews that conduct spring cleanup, painting, trail construction, rock staircase and wall construction, restoration and maintenance, shoreline restoration, bridge construction, and historical restoration projects. A typical hitch will consist of working as part of a 6 person crew for 24 days (including 4 days off) in the field doing conservation projects throughout the state. All members return to our basecamp in Bear Brook State Park at the end of each hitch for a rendezvous and debrief followed by an additional 3 days off.

Some of the state`s best mountain biking trails are literally outside the front door of our camp lodge. You will serve as part of a Corps of 30 members and will share small cabins and large community lodges. All members assist with camp chores such as facility maintenance, cleaning, cooking, food ordering, administrative duties, snow shoveling, splitting wood, etc… Members who partake in this program will work hard and are expected to contribute and serve as active community members. Together, we will model a sustainable and positive community work ethic.

The mission of  SCA NH corps is to serve the communities and lands of New Hampshire by accomplishing significant conservation service projects, enhancing and protecting natural areas and providing environmental education to promote the understanding and stewardship of these natural areas. One of the SCA NH corps hallmark programs is the SCA Manchester (high school leadership program), a program in which diverse inner-city high school students become engaged in conservation, environmental education and year-round service opportunities. The Manchester Leaders will coordinate all aspects of the program: mentoring high school aged youth as they take part in the year round program, recruiting and interviewing students, running after-school meetings and activities, designing and implementing weekend service projects and educational field trips, leading multiple 2-week summer conservation field crews on public lands throughout NH and administrative duties.

SCA Internship: Trail Development Intern, The Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge

Trail Development Intern, The Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge

We are currently seeking five SCA Interns to work as a team in completing a variety of public accessible trail projects throughout the 7.2 million acre Connecticut River Watershed, spanning four New England states (CT, MA, NH and VT) from the Long Island Sound to the Canadian border. Interns will complete a variety of hands-on trail development, construction and improvement projects (70%) and will be based (housed) in Hadley, MA. Interns will also be engaged in delivering environmental education and outreach programs as part of the FWS’s urban initiative, designed to educate youth and communities about the FWS and the natural resources in the CT River watershed. Specifically, the interns will assist FWS in staffing the Watershed on Wheels (WoW) Express, a mobile exhibit that travels the length of the Conte Refuge visiting schools, fairs and festivals. As time allows, interns will also provide assistance to the FWS fisheries, invasive plant control, and other resource management divisions.

Burlington City Hall Internships

The City of Burlington is excited to announce that we are seeking motivated candidates for internships within city government in the spring. Internships will provide individuals with educational experience in local government that will help them develop skills and proficiencies through attendance at city meetings, coordinating communications, planning events and initiatives, researching and drafting reports, and more.

The City Hall Internship Program will provide individuals with an opportunity for learning and growth that exposes them to government and municipal policy, as well as bestowing them with meaningful responsibilities.

Prospective interns will be assigned specific areas within the City’s public engagement and community development efforts. Some examples of the types of tasks that could be performed include:
– Policy analysis
– Evaluation and research
– Project and program management
– Public affairs and communications
– Social media
– Event coordination
– External affairs and community outreach

The program is run on a semester-based schedule to accommodate college students, but individuals of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. As having an internship program is new for City Hall, at least in recent memory, it will be run as a pilot on the spring.
