A gorge 1,500 feet tall towers over the Winooski river. Train tracks run parallel to a section of the river and a gargantuan cement bridge fills part of the valley. A small trail meanders through the coniferous forest and leads visitors to three outlook points to look down on the river far below.

Anyone interested in exploring this natural area can find it off Lime Kiln Road just south of Saint Michael’s College. It is part of the Winooski Valley Park District, which offers many other natural areas along the river but Winooski Gorge stands out as a unique birdwatching location.
