{"id":68,"date":"2013-01-31T19:18:52","date_gmt":"2013-02-01T00:18:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/dos\/?p=68"},"modified":"2013-04-16T07:20:18","modified_gmt":"2013-04-16T12:20:18","slug":"students-use-of-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/dos\/2013\/01\/students-use-of-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Students&#8217; Use of Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This survey was adapted from a social media survey developed at the University of Michigan.\u00a0 The goal of the survey, administered to undergraduate students in fall 2012, was to understand students\u2019 use of social media to inform our practice.<\/p>\n<p>Below are some of the key findings:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Over 50% of students indicated that they currently use the following social networking tools:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Facebook (93%)<\/li>\n<li>You Tube (84%)<\/li>\n<li>Pandora (64%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other top social networking tools:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Twitter (40%)<\/li>\n<li>RateMyProfessors (37%)<\/li>\n<li>Instagram (35%)<\/li>\n<li>Pinterest (27%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>80% of respondents agreed with the statement: \u201cwho you are and what you value are reflected in your profile\u201d<\/p>\n<p>92% of respondents used the internet sites to watch T.V.<\/p>\n<p>98% of respondents indicated that they owned a laptop, 66% owned a smartphone, and 20% owned a tablet.<\/p>\n<p>3 top preferred email platforms<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0 41% \u00a0 Gmail<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0 39% \u00a0 UVM Webmail<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0 5%\u00a0 Apple (iCloud)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This survey was adapted from a social media survey developed at the University of Michigan.\u00a0 The goal of the survey, administered to undergraduate students in fall 2012, was to understand students\u2019 use of social media to inform our practice.
