This can mean:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Word documents, presentations, spreadsheets<\/li>\n<li>Web page Bookmarks (Favorites)<\/li>\n<li>Pictures<\/li>\n<li>Songs and Videos<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In practice, this usually means clearing a bunch of stuff off of the Desktop.<\/p>\n<h2>Documents and Pictures:<\/h2>\n<p>Move all these items to your\u00a0 <strong>\u201cDocuments\u201d<\/strong> folder (or a subfolder inside it).\u00a0This folder\u00a0 actually \u201clives\u201d on a UVM server, so it will be accessible from your new computer as soon as you log on. Magic!<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re not sure where the Documents folder is, use the &#8220;Windows Key + E&#8221; keyboard shortcut to open the File Explorer. Then just drop your files into the Documents folder.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/chwb-tech\/files\/2016\/03\/file-explorer.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-514\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/chwb-tech\/files\/2016\/03\/file-explorer-293x300.png\" alt=\"Windows File Explorer\" width=\"293\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/chwb-tech\/files\/2016\/03\/file-explorer-293x300.png 293w, https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/chwb-tech\/files\/2016\/03\/file-explorer.png 427w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-pointingup\" style=\"border-style: none\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/chwb-tech\/files\/2012\/11\/wlEmoticon-pointingup.png\" alt=\"Pointing up\" \/> Tip: Drag and drop items to your Documents folder to <strong>copy<\/strong> them there. Hold down the shift key when\u00a0you drag and drop in order to <strong>move<\/strong> items there instead.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Songs and Videos:<\/h2>\n<p>By nature, these are large files. Instead of using up server space for these media, consider moving them to\u00a0a portable storage device like a CD, DVD, or USB drive.
