Red Maple Tree Updates!

Visited: April 7

I love getting to visit my tree and see how much it changes by the week. While I’m not yet seeing any flowering, I saw that many more branches of my red maple were beginning to bud. I expect flowering to begin soon as the weeks get warmer.

Marked-up picture showing branches all up the tree buds, rather than the long, low-hanging branches that have been budding since the start of my observations.

My tree is very small and skinny compared to a lot of the surrounding trees, so its branches get easily lost while trying to take pictures to share. I circled some budding to distinguish my tree from the surrounding ones.

The branches that have been budding since the beginning of my observations are beginning to open up a bit, making me eager to see what it’ll look like once flowered! There aren’t many buds per twig on any branch, which makes sense considering the young age of my tree.

The twig shown above is probably the most accessible twig for picture-taking and easy observation, and as you can see, there are very few buds on it. However, I see the top just beginning to open! There will definitely be much more exciting observations to report soon.
