Sincere thanks to Hope for preparing this information and presenting today. -Adam<\/p>\n<p>I am always looking for apps that let you do something&#8230; list is split by consuming things and creating things.-Hope Greenberg<\/p>\n<p>I am thinking of ways to interface with place and having that community based learning experience.- Alan Tinkler<\/p>\n<p>See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/place\/\">Walter Poleman&#8217;s placed based<\/a> work.<\/p>\n<p>Hope&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps\/ms?ie=UTF&amp;msa=0&amp;msid=209951741986266099759.0004a3568b1e7a0423d90\">Dog Map<\/a>, a map she made of dogs along a running route.<\/p>\n<p>Considerations when selecting apps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check to see which map service the app is using: google, mapquest, etc. \u00a0Make sure that will fit your needs.<\/li>\n<li>Also consider what you can do with the data after you have taken it. \u00a0Most can email, but how else can you the data be used? KML is a file format that will work with Google Maps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A list of applications\u00a0for your consideration from Hope Greenberg<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Create things<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/google-earth\/id293622097?mt=8\">Google Earth<\/a> (the Mothership)- Free<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/my-places-for-google-maps\/id492861440?mt=8\">My Places for Google Maps <\/a>(Add pins, lines, and areas to The Mothership)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/my-maps\/id321930101?mt=8\">MyMaps<\/a> (Add pins, lines, and areas to The Mothership)- $1.99 \u00a0A mashup of google and google maps, with GPS. You can layer a Google map image over the map you are working on. Save maps in one&#8217;s google account, login to Google Earth or maps.google.com with the same google account and pull it into Google Earth or Google Maps, export as a KML file. Embed maps in blogs, blackboard, etc. Click the Collaborate button in maps.google.com to find a customized URL.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/kml-map-hd\/id386832667?mt=8\">KMLMapHD<\/a> (see all kinds of data details about your KMZ\/KML maps &#8211; haven&#8217;t plumbed the depths on this one quite yet)-$3.99<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/kmz-loader\/id435350230?mt=8\">KMZ Loader<\/a> (doesn&#8217;t quite work as it should but it gives an easy way to see the guts of a KML file)-Free<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/imaps+-for-google-maps-directions\/id585801479?mt=8\">iMaps+<\/a> (good for displaying routes for directions)- $1.99<\/li>\n<li>Maps (the built-in iPad app that is not quite as good as iMaps+)-Free<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/gps-map-toolbox\/id438351943?mt=8\">GPS Toolbox<\/a> (basic GPS program)- $2.99<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/galileo-offline-maps\/id321745474?mt=8\">Galileo<\/a> (record, save, share your GPS track as you walk or drive it)-Free. It is possible to save the file as a KML file, which can be imported into Google Earth.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/fieldnoteslt\/id443876537?mt=8\">Field Notes<\/a>&#8211; Free version let&#8217;s you take photos and notes. Upgrade for $10 allows you take audio and video along with photos and notes.
