Rural geographers from Australia, Wales, Northern Ireland, England, Canada, Scotland, England, and the United States shared research, discussed pressing rural concerns, completed a community engagement exercise, and conducted experiential learning by visiting a number of Vermont-based working landscape and rural community enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-two papers were presented, focusing on the following conference and research areas:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Working Landscapes and Livable Communities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diversity in Rural Spaces<\/li>\n<li>Rural (Im)Mobilities<\/li>\n<li>Rural Relationality and Experience<\/li>\n<li>Social and Ecological Change in Rural Landscapes<\/li>\n<li>Dimensions of Resource Extraction<\/li>\n<li>Rural Dynamics Beyond the UK, US, and Canada<\/li>\n<li>Rural Cultural Resilience<\/li>\n<li>Rural Politics, Planning, and Development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lisa Harrington, Kansas State University, began the conference with a review of Rural Quadrennial themes and concerns: &#8220;The Quadrennial Rural Geography Meetings: A Topical Retrospective&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It was a dynamic conference and we look forward to the next Quad in 2023, hosted by the Canadian group!<\/p>\n<p>Please contact Cheryl Morse: <a href=\"mailto:cheryl.morse@uvm.edu\">cheryl.morse@uvm.edu<\/a>\u00a0 or Peter Nelson: <a href=\"mailto:pbnelson@middlebury.edu\">pbnelson@middlebury.edu<\/a> with any questions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Working Landscapes, Livable Communities\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 July 13-19, 2019 The Ninth Quadrennial Conference of British, Canadian, and American Rural Geographers was hosted by Peter Nelson (Middlebury College) and Cheryl Morse (University of Vermont) in Vermont, USA.
