What does your typical day look like?
\n<\/strong>I represent the United States of America and federal agencies in civil litigation. The types of things I do include appearing in court to advocate for\u00a0the government’s position, drafting legal documents\u00a0and correspondence, and communicating\u00a0with client agencies\u00a0and opposing counsel to negotiate case resolutions.<\/p>\n

How did you get to where you are today and were there any significant experiences that helped shape your career path?
\n<\/strong>I served as a\u00a0judicial law\u00a0clerk for two different federal judges, and I\u00a0worked for four years at law firm doing commercial litigation before I\u00a0obtained\u00a0my current position.\u00a0 As a judicial law clerk,\u00a0I was able to develop my legal research and writing skills, observe practicing attorneys\u00a0at work, and\u00a0learn\u00a0what motivates judicial decision-making.\u00a0 As an associate at law firm, I got practical\u00a0experience representing clients.<\/p>\n

Do you have any advice for undergraduates?
\n<\/strong>Talk to as many people as you can in the fields that interest you and pay particular attention to people who love their work. Understand\u00a0that it might take you longer than you would like to get where you want to be, but keep working towards putting yourself in the best position to capitalize when\u00a0an opportunity becomes available.<\/p>\n

What would you do differently about how you went about your career?
\n<\/strong>Do a better job of developing and maintaining contacts from all of the positions that I have held including internships.\u00a0\u00a0Do not\u00a0underestimate the importance of personal connections in determining who gets hired.<\/p>\n
