As the\u00a0Exploring Interest Group, we\u00a0highly recommend you take time\u00a0to\u00a0reflect\u00a0on who you are and what you want out of life.\u00a0Reflecting on your interests, skills,\u00a0curiosities, and\u00a0identifying\u00a0the people\u00a0who\u00a0you want to connect with\u00a0is the first step towards\u00a0figuring\u00a0out your\u00a0unique\u00a0path.\u00a0The 4-Year Path to\u00a0Career\u00a0Success\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>is a great tool to help you\u00a0get started on your\u00a0reflection\u00a0and\u00a0planning process.\u00a0You can fill this out on your\u00a0own\u00a0or\u00a0you can meet with\u00a0us for\u00a0assistance either by logging into Handshake to schedule an appointment or\u00a0you can attend one of\u00a0our\u00a0Virtual Drop-In<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0sessions.\u00a0We are here to help\u00a0you\u00a0create the life you want to live-happy exploring!\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Put Your Curiosity to the Test\u00a0<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you want to explore an area of interest, but you don\u2019t know where to begin?\u00a0One step you can take is to set up an\u00a0informational interview<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0with someone working in a\u00a0job or\u00a0career you\u2019re curious about to learn more about that chosen field.\u00a0By\u00a0interviewing a professional contact and asking them about\u00a0their\u00a0experience you\u2019ll receive\u00a0career advice, you\u2019ll bridge connections\u00a0and\u00a0learn more about whether it\u2019s something to consider as a career. In addition, it will help you map\u00a0out your next steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


To prepare\u00a0for informational interview(s) you\u2019ll want to research\u00a0the professional\u2019s current position,\u00a0the organization they work for, and then reflect on\u00a0what\u2019s most important for you to learn about during this conversation. This will help you think of the questions you want to ask them during your time together.\u00a0Remember, they were once in your shoes, so try not to feel intimidated by the interview; it\u2019s all about building a trusting relationship. After the interview, reflect on what you learned- is it something you want to pursue further? Are there more skills you need to gain? Are there other people you want to connect with? Get Matched and Virtual Drop-Ins<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get Matched:<\/strong> Join us to explore major options, by engaging in 1:1 discussion and\/or by completing the Choosing a Major activity. Register in advance or drop-in, and get advice and help on May 5th from 7-8pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virtual Drop-ins:<\/strong> The Career Center is excited to offer drop-in hours again! We will be hosting these appointments virtually, and there is no need to sign up in advance. Just log into this link: go.uvm.edu\/ccdrop-in<\/a>, to meet with a couple of Peer Leaders who will be available to help throughout the week.\u00a0\u00a0
You can meet with Alex, the Exploring Interest Group Peer Leader on Mondays from 1-2pm and Wednesdays from 5-6pm. You can meet with Peer Leaders from another Interest Group on Thursday from 1-2pm, too, if those hours work best for you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UVM Clubs<\/strong><\/a> – Find clubs you want to join! By joining a club or two, you can meet other students who share the same interests and you will build skills that can transfer into the professional world.
