Phoebe Townsend, from\u00a0ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain<\/a>, appreciated that \u201cstudents who are interested in us have sought us out.\u201d\u00a0 These students, she felt, were already \u201cdemonstrating a willingness to learn and enthusiasm for our mission.\u201d \u00a0Phoebe\u2019s advice to the job seeker: \u201cHave a good resume and follow the process. It sounds simple, but we really appreciate it when people follow our guidelines.\u201d Representatives from the\u00a0Vermont Youth Conservation Corps<\/a>\u00a0echoed the sentiment as they too saw a lot of students taking initiative. \u201cIt seems like students have really done some online research to know a bit about who we are and what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n Well done UVMers, way to show up! \u00a0Representing yourselves so well at an event like this comes with the added benefit of bolstering the profile of the University which, in turn, serves us all as employers across the nation see the value of a degree from UVM.<\/strong><\/p>\n We were also proud to see 24% of fair attendees being 1st<\/sup>\u00a0and 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0year students \u2013 we applaud your early start! \u00a0Students at this fair were just as likely to have come to explore and network as they were to have been searching specifically for a job or internship. \u00a0Jonathan Griffin, from VTrans, was \u201cimpressed that even freshmen and sophomore students were applying for positions\u2014it\u2019s never too early to get started.\u201d\u00a0 Jonathan\u2019s own story is a testament to not waiting.\u00a0 He began working for\u00a0VTrans<\/a>\u00a0part-time during his last semester at UVM and that evolved into the full-time position he holds now. His advice to you: \u201cEngage in the interview process, come prepared to ask questions. It\u2019s equally important to ask questions as it is to answer questions thoroughly, because that shows engagement and thoughtfulness in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n City Market\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0Nick Garcia also highlighted the importance of the interview as a dialogue.\u00a0 \u201cTake your time to learn about the store and enroll in the community, so that when you come in, you can talk about it in an engaged way\u2026 put yourself in a position where you can have a conversation with your interviewer.\u201d City Market, by the way, is hiring NOW for many different positions as they look to open their South End location this November.\u00a0 City Market, and all the companies in attendance, are posting opportunities in Handshake<\/a>.<\/p>\n
