However, holding an education\u00a0(or any\u00a0other)\u00a0degree can qualify you for jobs in a variety of industries including business, non-profit work, publishing, government and much more. You have\u00a0developed\u00a0skills\u00a0through your coursework and activities, and\u00a0there are plenty of positions that you can find outside of\u00a0the\u00a0expected career options. Identify your transferrable skills and match them with career fields of interest.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Using teaching as an example, here is what it could look like to match education<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>experiences<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>to transferable skills in other fields:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Effective discipline skills\u00a0=\u00a0Conflict-resolution skills<\/li>\n<li>Engagingand flexible teaching style\u00a0= Adaptability &amp; problem solving skills<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communication skills with parents=\u00a0Effective communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Classroom management skills=\u00a0Leadership and management qualities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to the NACE Job Outlook 2016 Employer Survey,\u00a0teamwork\u00a0communication skills, initiative, work ethic, analytical skills and\u00a0flexibility are among the top skills that employers seek in candidates;\u00a0all of which you can\u00a0develop throughout\u00a0on- and off-campus experiences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Continuing to use Education Majors as an example, here\u00a0are some ways you could\u00a0translate your interests into jobs in various industries:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are\u00a0still\u00a0interested in working with young minds\u00a0but not in the classroom,consider: Non-profit\u00a0and social services\u00a0organizations.\u00a0Non-profit organizations with\u00a0a focus\u00a0on after-school programs and youth organizations have tons of roles to fill. Your skills as an educator\u00a0could\u00a0be needed\u00a0to develop programming, mentor youth,\u00a0or facilitate group presentations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If youstill enjoy communications, relationship building and outreach, consider:\u00a0marketing, public communications, development work, account management and more.\u00a0Companies\u00a0could appreciate\u00a0your engaging personality and thorough knowledge of human behavior.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Take into consideration your skills, experience, and most important of all your\u00a0<em>interests<\/em>\u00a0when considering an alternative career.
