How about what it is like to be the person accepting resumes? If you haven\u2019t thought about the flip side to recruiting, then maybe you should. After all, wouldn\u2019t you like to know what the other side is looking for?<\/p>\n<p>In the span of one year I went from having a student role to an employer role at the UVM Career Fair. What I have learned in both positions is that preparation is key. There are a few simple things that make for a good first impression:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Bring an up to date resume<\/strong>: Before stepping foot into the Career Fair make sure that your resume is flawless. Stop by the Career Center to have it reviewed or have it looked over by someone that can be honest and constructive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dress Professionally:<\/strong> You only have a few minutes with each company so make sure to present yourself well. That can mean different things for different career paths, but make sure to take the extra effort to dress in a manner that gives you the confidence you need.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research the company:<\/strong> This step is often overlooked but it makes the greatest impact. Check out the list of companies ahead of time and pick out the ones you are most interested in pursuing. Google them, check out their website, and skim some current news articles. When it comes time to introduce yourself you\u2019ll have something to keep the conversation going.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>These tips are by no means ground breaking, but from the recruiter\u2019s respective they are noteworthy and impressive. So put on your best professional outfit, carry a flawless resume, and let employers know just how much you know. If you do these things, you\u2019ll be sure to stand out.
